Where have the prankster and Dadaist Flaming Lips gone, always different in style that they embraced in each of their new albums, like a rollercoaster, first rock, then metal, then punk, then pop, then electronics, and even soul, which have accompanied us for much of the recent years starting from the beautiful "In a Priest Driven Ambulance"?

Good question, I would say. The answer is simple.

There they are, pushed to the margins of that long road that led to their maturity and their true "human and musical dimension."

A long road at the end of which there is, as a confirmation, this "The Terror."

Not surprisingly, it is perhaps the first time we face an album very (too?) similar to the previous one.

Not surprisingly, Wayne Coyne has said several times that this is the best FL album.

You can agree or not.

After the first listen, I would have gladly spit in his face if he had been in front of me.

After the third, I almost agree, when, if ever, I have the chance to read this review on debaser, I will perhaps be absolutely in agreement..

"The Terror" is the sad brother of "Embryonic", similar to the latter regarding the disturbed soundscapes, reverberations, "underwater" voices, ambient sounds, except that instead of a brain, of pulsating legs and arms, determined on what to do like a volcanic eruption, it has a pulsating and lost heart that cries blood in the night.

There is a desperate acidic and subtle melancholy that envelops everything.

There is also "The Terror" (the song), whose words I am still unable to decipher, and perhaps it's better this way because the music is enough to express the concept.

And there is a song that, yes, surely, from the first listen, is one of the best things, among the sweetest, composed by the Flaming Lips, it is called "Try to Explain" (it would have fit well in "The Soft Bulletin").

And I am also trying to explain to myself why, despite my fears (what terror I had that they were getting lost...), even this time the Lips once again managed not to disappoint me.
