The Communards were a British pop duo formed by Jimmy Somerville and Richard Coles in 1985, active until 1988, known for blending synthpop, disco and soul and for the hit "Don't Leave Me This Way".

Jimmy Somerville previously fronted Bronski Beat; the duo combined dance-pop arrangements with politically charged lyrics and LGBTQ+ themes.

A positive, affectionate review of The Communards' debut album highlighting Jimmy Somerville's falsetto, political lyricism and genre-mixing (disco, R&B, jazz). The album is recommended as a warm, winter listen and a rediscovery.

For:Fans of 1980s synthpop, dance and disco; listeners interested in politically engaged and LGBTQ+ pop music.

An impossible falsetto and an extraordinary resemblance to Tweety Bird, the canary from Sylvester the Cat.
