THE REVIEW

“Return Of Century” is a good pop album. I could end my review here; in fact, there isn't much to add to what is a pleasant and light album.

This second release by the 1900s (not to be confused with Glasgow rockers 1990s) goes by quickly and leaves a good impression from the very first impact.

There is an excellent variety of ingredients: playful shyness that winks at Scottish pop (“Amulet”, “Zerkalo”), fusions between country and opera music (“Lay a Ghost”), the bizarre sixties of bands like Supergrass and Of Montreal (respectively “Kidnap Runaway” and “Babies”), the 80s disco pop revival (“Overreactin’”), and there are touching moments too (“Tucson”).

A perfect work in every part, with arrangements in their place and melodic cleanliness of sweet quality.

You can't ask for more from the Chicago septet, which since their debut three years ago has replaced three members, surviving by a miracle.

It features a diverse mix of influences, including Scottish pop, country, opera, and 80s disco. The arrangements are polished, and the melodies are clear and sweet. Despite lineup changes, the Chicago band maintains strong quality with this, their second release.
