Living in big cities is not just stress and constant swearing. Living in big cities also means having friends who, despite their questionable music tastes, sneak into your PC and, rummaging through various music libraries, discover my past with adolescent music. Yes indeed! And so they decide to gift me a ticket to the concert of the band from Turin. All alone, no one joins to keep me company. Then I reflect and obviously deduce that Pausini won't be part of this event which takes place every year at the Ippodromo delle Capannelle (oh, but no shuttle for the return, huh?????). This is not enough to demoralize me, so after finding company among the set designers from the academy (I don't know if it's a coincidence but they were all from that course), we set out to cross half of Rome to arrive around 8 PM at this mega complex. Upon reaching the entrance, I begin to have the first wave of nausea reading that on the 26th Modà will play!!!! And then here my expectations become reality! A myriad of pseudo bimbiminchia shouting and singing. I followed Subsonica up to the advent of Terrestre, passing the "scepter" to my sister, as my adolescence had ended by then. I must say that up to the times of Amorematico I also appreciated them, with their electroclash pop-rock sound. Sure, they were a slightly more elite group back then. Now, however. But a gift is always a gift and it certainly won't be something to demoralize me and prevent me from enjoying the evening. I had always heard that they were more than good live. It was just a matter of waiting.

After a beer, my company decides to sneak into the crowd. A varied crowd, to my great amazement, I even notice someone older than me (and here I am at 26 years old concerned with the issue; perhaps because Subsonica reminds me of the times when I was in high school). After much waiting and several "cuts," the lights go out. The stage comes alive and to the notes of Giorni a perdere Samiel, Boosta, and company come out dressed in a red shirt, black tie and dark pants. The set is that of Rock in Rome. Aside from the fiery girls who seem to have a heart attack at every wink from the aforementioned, I try to enjoy the show, racking my brains to remember the lyrics and titles of the various songs (unfortunately only with those from the last album did I have little problems!). The setlist is varied, the various old and new compositions blend perfectly with the atmosphere created by the frontman who, despite everything, between jumps and leaps manages to keep the audience alive, which seems to explode song after song. And it seems to move me too. Indeed, damn everything, I start to go wild, clap my hands, sing at the top of my lungs, and pogo!!! Song after song, we get to Depre and as the lights go off, a not entirely unfamiliar character comes up! A certain Antonello Venditti who begins to pique my curiosity. But don't worry, no duet, he is just part of the improvised choreography for a delirious song that conveys a lot live! Ah the good times of Microchip Emozionale!!!! The crowd is increasingly in a frenzy and seems to appreciate the songs from "L'Eden" which are rightly featured more, although there are gems like "Albascura, Nuvole Rapide, Liberi Tutti, Discoteca Labirinto (but no Morgan), Colpo di Pistola and the evergreen "Tutti i miei Sbagli".

And so between a break, a cigarette, a change of clothes, psychedelic light games, I find myself rummaging through my "mechanical" dictionary once again, remembering the good old days. I must say I started off on the wrong foot and despite my ignorance of their latest productions, I remain struck by the rhythm of "Benzina Ogoshi, Istrice, La funzione", but the one that attracts my attention the most is undoubtedly "Il Diluvio". Thanks also to Samuel who asks us to crouch down and then explode when the rhythm rises more and more!!!!! The time comes for the fake goodbyes, the return to the stage, the last songs, not very beautiful, kisses and hugs, and after midnight, after more than two hours of involvement, my birthday gift ends.

I'll spare you the epic to get back home, amidst traffic and crowded buses! In short, an excellent show for a band that, although no longer thrilling me as it once did, manages to keep attention alive and performs divinely on stage. An excellent band for an interesting commercial pop-rock market in the Italian scene! Oh, I almost forgot, I wonder what the Afterhours show will be like on the 6th! My friends sure do care about me!!!!
