The helicopter that was supposed to take him to Chicago crashed on a hill just a few minutes after takeoff on the night of August 27, 1990. Thus, the life of Steve Ray Vaughan, one of the most representative artists of 80s blues, tragically came to an end.
Steve was born on October 30, 1954, in Dallas, and he discovered the guitar at the age of eight thanks to his brother Jimmy, who was already a six-string lover as a young man. After some projects that didn't take off, his career as a Bluesman began, which saw Steve alongside Double Trouble, often hindered by his reckless use of drugs and alcohol: once, due to a sudden fainting, he had to interrupt his live performance for a more than quick run to the hospital.
Within the Greatest Hits, there are typical 80s blues tracks where Stevie expresses all the sadness towards a world that is too hypocritical and depressing with overdriven riffs supported by his melancholic voice and the great technical skill of his inseparable musicians: Double Trouble.
This CD also contains tracks more in the ballad style and even an instrumental piece: the melodic Little Wing (written by the great Jimi Hendrix). In his style, we find the classic rock of Jimi Hendrix and the typical Memphis Blues fused together like, for example, the sound of the great B.B. King. Steve Ray Vaughan is a timeless artist, so I recommend his masterpieces to anyone wanting to venture into one of the styles that, alongside Jazz, gave rise to 90% of the music that exists today.
