THE REVIEW

In a review of koRn, I read that practically aside from them and S.O.A.D., all the rest of nu-metal is to be discarded, but I sincerely hope you don't know these guys.

And most likely it's true, also because the dog to my right and its owner, namely Lynn Strait, the lead singer of the group, died in a car accident shortly before the "world release," but they lived long enough to do an Ozzfest, where I was present. Like many people there, I didn't know them, and like them, I first said to myself: - DAMN, THESE GUYS ROCK, and then I saw more people getting excited with them than with Megadeth, Soulfly, Ozzy, Soad, Incubus, and the other bands present at Ozzfest 30/07/98 Palm Beach FL, only T00L "defeated" them, but if Maradona comes after Pelé it doesn’t mean he doesn't know how to juggle… right?

But let's talk about the music: the singer alternates very slow pieces+outbursts with piercing yet understandable screams (not growl), to other fast-nervous-angry ones that convey his mood well. Two guitars, one leaning more towards distortion, and the other with heavy riffs, bass (perhaps the most technical in the group) that performs well in the heavy pieces, not disappointing even in some solos, drums without particular speed outbursts, but with an extremely clean touch.

All in all, it sounds like System in the slow parts, like T00L during the outbursts (I wrote LIKE), with some musically very relaxed interludes.

The lyrics range from "life is shit you can't do anything about it" to "but fuck it, now we're here and since we're here let's break everything and try to have as much sex as possible" to "dumbass what the hell do you want?".

The album, as I repeat, wasn't released in Europe (as an import I found it in 97 in 2/3 stores), but search online and you'll find everything, and I challenge you to find a review that speaks poorly, or even moderately, because I only found people who were thrilled by their sound. If you like koRn, S.O.A.D., the old Deftones, and some Soulfly, it’s impossible you wouldn’t like them.
