Philip Charles Lithman (1949–1987), known as Snakefinger, was an English guitarist and singer associated with The Residents and Ralph Records, noted for slide-guitar and experimental/avant-garde recordings.

Born 1949; died July 1, 1987 of a heart attack (reviews note heavy smoking and prior heart problems). Longtime collaborator and close associate of The Residents; contributed guitar to Residents releases including the single "Satisfaction" and tracks on Fingerprince, Duck Stab/Buster & Glen, Eskimo and Diskomo. Released Chewing Hides the Sound (1979) and Greener Postures (1980) on Ralph Records; his style mixes surreal/absurd elements, slide guitar and darkly playful arrangements.

Three DeBaser reviews celebrate Snakefinger's eccentric, experimental style and close collaboration with The Residents. Reviewers highlight the albums Chewing Hides the Sound and Greener Postures and praise his slide-guitar work and surreal approach. One review calls a compilation "absolutely unmissable."

For:Fans of experimental/avant-garde rock, followers of The Residents, collectors of obscure late-70s/early-80s alternative music.

you overdose on all the cherries (what beautiful cherries, oh! what beautiful cherries) that the little serpent Philip Charles offers instead of the apple.
