Hello everyone, this is my first review on this site. I hope you won't be too harsh in your judgment...
The album I'm going to talk about is "Slipknot", a work by the band of the same name from Des Moines, Iowa, which was released in 1999. Hoping you won't find me biased (Slipknot is one of my favorite bands), I say that this album is one of the best debuts of the '90s, along with Korn and Soulfly. Not coincidentally, nu-metal bands. And coincidentally, the only nu-metal bands that truly excite me (well, then there's System Of A Down, which I don't mind, but I'm not a die-hard fan). Frankly, this is a complete album: there are heavy and "artistic" riffs, melody (but not too much...) used with discretion, and, above all, drums that keep the beat, even the maybe slower ones.
Parenthesis: Joey Jordison is great. Really. The best drummer on Earth, absolutely. And don't tell me "ah, but he plays in those crappy Slipknot" "ah, but there's much better!", because if he played in a black or death metal band, you'd praise him (and in fact, I hope to see him play in a death band, it would be my dream). He's only underrated because he plays in a nu-metal group. So, on this point, no negative criticism. Parenthesis closed.
The song I would recommend? All of them... the intro is engaging (and the voice that repeatedly says "The whole thing I think I sick" by Charles Manson is fabulous... but some claim that the unrecognizable voice is Corey Taylor, the singer of the Des Moines band).
(SIC) (which stands for "said in contest"), is wonderful, in EYELESS Corey talks about the father he never knew. WAIT AND BLEED is marvelous, hardness, and thought-out melody (referring to the melody, eh...) that blend great. Written against corrupt rock/metal bands, SURFACING rocks hard... SPIT IT OUT rightfully offends that faggot Fred Durst (where Slipknot calls him a "dirty bald head"... no more appropriate term!), while TATTERED AND TORN is very strange, very particular: the most dominant instrument is Craig Jones' samples, which are very engaging. Fantastic ME INSIDE, LIBERATE is a sort of autobiography of Corey, and PROSTHETICS is based on a film from the '60s, "The Collector". NO LIFE is the anthem against people you can't trust, DILUTED starts with a great riff, ONLY ONE badmouths those who dare (this is my word...) to cast mud on my 9 favorites, while even the final SCISSORS, composed by drummer Joey Jordison, is very strange, but full of great riffs and a very powerful voice like Corey's.
What else to say... an album to have, one of the masterpieces of the nu-metal scene, complete, intense, original, and innovative. A must!

12 Spit it out (03:07)
Did you never give a damn in the first place?
Maybe it's time you had the tables turned
'Cause in the interest of all involved I got the problem solved
And the verdict is guilty
Man nearly killed me
Stepping where you fear to tread
Stop, drop and roll - You were dead from the git-go!
Big mouth fucker - Stupid cocksucker
Are you scared of me now?
Then you're dumber than I thought
Always is and never was
Foundation made of piss and vinegar
Step to me, I'll smear ya -Think I fear ya? Bullshit!
Just another dumb punk chomping at this tit
Is there any way to break through the noise?
Was it something that I said that got you bent?
Gotta be that way if you want it
Sanity, Literal Profanity - Hit me!
Spit it out!
All you wanna do is drag me down
All I wanna do is stamp you out
Spit it out!
All you wanna do is drag me down
All I wanna do is stamp you out
Maybe it's the way you gotta spread a lotta rumour fodder
Keeping all your little spies and leaving when you realize
Step up, fairy
I guess it's time to bury your ass with the chrome
Straight to the dome
You hear me right, bitch, I didn't stutter
If you know what's good - Just shut up and beg, brother
Backstab - Don't you know who you're dissing?
Side swipe - The ass that you're kissing!
Bigity bigity - Bitch boy, halfway houser
Don't hear shit 'cause it keeps getting louder
Come on - And get a face full o' tactic
Lipping off hard, going home in a basket
You got no pull, no power, no nothing
Now you start shit? Well, ain't that somethin'?
Payoffs don't protect - And you can hide if you want
But I'll find you - Coming up behind you!
Spit it out!
All you wanna do is drag me down
All I wanna do is stamp you out
Spit it out!
All you wanna do is drag me down
All I wanna do is stamp you out
'Bout time I set this record straight
All the needlenose punching is making me irate
Sick of my bitching falling on deaf ears
Where you gonna be in the next five years?
The crew and all the fools, and all the politics
Get your lips ready, gonna gag, gonna make you sick
You got dick when they passed out the good stuff
Bam - Are you sick of me?
Good enough - Had enough?
Fuck Me! I'm all out of enemies!
Fuck Me! I'm all out of enemies!
Fuck Me! I'm all out of enemies!
Fuck Me! I'm all out of enemies!
Fuck Me! I'm all out of enemies!
Fuck Me! I'm all out of enemies!
Fuck Me! I'm all out of enemies!
Fuck Me! I'm all out of enemas!
Spit it out!
All you wanna do is drag me down
All I wanna do is stamp you out
Spit it out!
All you wanna do is drag me down
All I wanna do is spit you out
Spit!
Spit!
Spit!
Spit!
Spit it out!
14 Surfacing (03:56)
Fuck You All!
Running out of ways to run
I can't see, I can't be
Over and over and under my skin
All this attention is doing me in!
Fuck it all!
Fuck this world!
Fuck everything that you stand for!
Don't belong!
Don't exist!
Don't give a shit!
Don't ever judge me!
Picking through the parts exposed
Taking shape, taking shag
Over and over and under my skin
All this momentum is doing me in!
Fuck it all!
Fuck this world!
Fuck everything that you stand for!
Don't belong!
Don't exist!
Don't give a shit!
Don't ever judge me!
And don't you fucking judge me!
You got all my love, livin' in your own hate
Drippin' hole man, hard step, no fate
Show you nuthin', but I ain't holdin' back
Every damn word I say is a sneak attack
When I get my hands on you
Ain't a fucking thing you can do
Get this cuz you're never gonna get me
I am the very disease you pretend to be
I am the push that makes you move
I am the push that makes you move
I am the push that makes you move
I am the push that makes you move
Fuck it all!
Fuck this world!
Fuck everything that you stand for!
Don't belong!
Don't exist!
Don't give a shit!
Don't ever judge me!
Fuck it all!
Fuck this world!
Fuck everything that you stand for!
Don't belong!
Don't exist!
Don't give a shit!
Don't ever judge me!

This debut is a gem in the history of music, many bands copy the Slipknot, but none are as original as them.
The magnificent Slipknot sound is pure power, a concentrate of violence, madness, impetuosity, fury, aggressiveness, and Truth.

Songs that are highly elaborate and complex as a foundation, driven primarily by the rhythm of the drums.
In short, in the big melting pot of Nu, this album certainly won’t be for everyone, but it undoubtedly remains one of the freshest and most successful instances of the genre.

"The nine clowns of despair have created an angry and magnificent album."

The choruses of "Wait And Bleed" are nothing but lullabies for retarded children, even more childish than those of a power group of the most stereotypical variety.
I'd rather give the "telegattone della scaltrezza" to the Roadrunner producer who assembled and packaged them. Now, that's someone who understood how to make money hand over fist by mocking the ever-skeptical metal audience.

If you call it nu-metal, take a look in the mirror, then we’ll talk again.
Not the best from the group, but Limp Bizkit, with all due respect, can only dream of a CD like this.
