Fucking album. A thrash metal band playing punk. It's like Gigi D'Alessio doing Led Zeppelin covers. Try to imagine Gigi's voice under a nice hard rock riff screaming "I'M GONNA GIVE YOU MY LOVE!!!!". Did you try? Fun, right? Now try to imagine Slayer, the epitome of extreme metal, playing covers of punk bands.
Truly a bold move by the band, which, after endless criticism of "Divine Intervention," was said to blow everyone away once again. Hell no, they didn't! This damn album was the peak of Slayer's crisis and the quarrel with the true fans, who saw their band change drummers once a month and collaborate with the likes of Ice-T and Atari Teenage Riot: what a loss...
The oldest fans of the band really couldn't swallow the new style and sound the band experimented with, especially because of the lack of valid songs. Tom remains the great Tom, Jeff and Kerry remain the great Jeff and Kerry, and ex-Testament Dette hits (and damn he hits) like a blacksmith, yet the experiment fails.
Of this mediocre album, I only salvage the super cool "I Hate You," a cover by Verbal Abuse (which also has a very funny video), and "Gemini," one of the three Made In Slayer tracks of this hybrid. Surely many punks will say that "Undisputed Attitude" is a masterpiece, but I still maintain that it is not even up to par with the more recent "Diabolus In Musica" and "God Hates Us All".
It may also be that I am underestimating Slayer's good work on this album, but it is only because I am one of those who wake up in the morning with the scream of "Angel Of Death" ringing in their ears, and I am sure that younger fans will appreciate their turn more.
An extreme thrash band that sounds punk? Perhaps... it is the most logical and natural thing in this world.
"I Want Free Money!/I Want Free Money!/I Want Free Money!"... eh, me too.
With Undisputed Attitude, you enter the heart of rage, of chaos, and of blind fury!
A jolt of unparalleled adrenaline was needed.
