In recent years, when talking about Sinead O'Connor, the conversation often revolves around scandals and her controversial statements.
In my opinion, however, we should talk about her immense talent, perhaps sometimes a bit wasted or thrown away, but undoubtedly a great talent nonetheless.

In '92, Nothing Compares 2 U (written by Prince) made her famous. People spoke of a great revelation, I was still too young, but in many articles from those years, she was talked about as a strong woman, with incredible charisma, possessing great maturity, and especially, as I mentioned before, she was spoken of as having a great talent, spontaneous, fresh, and powerful as lava.

I want to talk to you about the album from which Nothing Compares 2 U came, which has a very long title, "I Do Not Want What I Haven't Got", and linking to the title, O'Connor never uses what she doesn't have. In fact, it's about 10 very simple songs musically, voice, guitar, some electronic effects, an Irish violin in the second track I Am Stretched On Your Grave, and of course, the piano is present, even the tenth song has no music, it's an a cappella song, where Sinead's powerful and mighty voice resonates strongly.
The lyrics are obviously central for such a singer, long, elaborate lyrics that don't even pay attention to rhymes, or cadence of certain words, they are simply stories, complicated and vivid, of a particular woman, part genius, part child, part man, part woman.
In short, listening to songs like Feel So Different, Black Boys On Mopeds, or The Last Day Of Our Acquaintance is like drawing from a spring of pure water, where nothing is contaminated, pure essence, pure spontaneity, because this album is not overwhelming, no electric guitars, nothing new, no amazing effect, it’s an intimate work, made by a young girl full of ideas and emotions to give, which might disappoint at first listen but then takes over your heart and the emotions you like to attach to this album.

It's a pity that O'Connor has lost her way, and instead of producing new albums, talks about exiting the scene, even though in recent days a compilation has been released with all her important collaborations, she tears up a photo of the pope just for shock, she declares herself a lesbian, then bisexual, in short, it seems to me that she really doesn't know what she wants. However, this CD remains here with me, close to my emotions.
