THE REVIEW

The artist firmly establishes herself with this album, which fulfills the promises of her debut "The Lion and The Cobra"; it is the track "Nothing Compares To You", written by Prince, that catapults her into the pop stratosphere, but it is the album that reveals her extraordinary interpretive talents and effective songwriting.

The songs are carried by a beautiful crystalline voice, a result of heterogeneous elements: a formidable fusion of Irish roots, spirituality, and civil rage. O'Connor was not a prisoner of the desire to be unconventional at all costs (for which she deserves credit), the beautiful singer does not bring an extremely original sound in this album, but she delivers an unforgettable emotional tension. In 1990, she released this CD which carries a piece of our youth when we were (at least I was) pure, sweet, and not mischievous. Unfortunately, the beautiful Sinead seemingly stopped here; unfortunately, she was overtaken by singers with less talent but with a stronger record label and, above all, with bigger goals than hers... she just liked to sing and that was it... I recently saw a photo of Sinead... my advice is to remember her this way... with a face not yet touched by senility...

Listening to songs like Feel So Different and Black Boys On Mopeds is like drawing from a spring of pure water, where nothing is contaminated.

This album is an intimate work, made by a young girl full of ideas and emotions to give, which might disappoint at first listen but then takes over your heart.

The album truly takes off at track number six with 'The Voice of My Doctor' which gives the album a rock turn and a considerable energy boost.

'Take Me To Church' lies somewhat of the key to understanding this concept album dedicated to love.
