And after months and months of absence, here I am returning to the depths of "reviews written by those who want to".
It is my pleasure to write about the return after 2 sabbatical years of Silentivm, in my humble opinion, a "great band" that has always hit the mark with their discographic works.
Our Finns, coming back from "Seducia", a good album but perhaps one of the lowest points of their career, release this "Amortean", which only now, at the 5th-6th listen, I am ready to analyze.
It really seems like witnessing a completely different Silentivm; the highlights that suggest a "watershed" album in their career are numerous, but let's go slowly:
the thing that immediately catches the attention is the almost total absence of male vocals, the latter very criticized since it was judged one of the ugliest male voices in the metal world; Matti Aikio (bass and vocals) seems to have almost learned this by focusing on giving his best in playing his 4-string.
The protagonist's scepter finally passes to the Female Vocals miss Riina Rinkinen, more in shape and charismatic than ever: her voice undergoes continuous changes throughout the 9 tracks of the album, now sweet and soft ("The Messenger", "My Broken Angel", "Storm Sight Solicitude"), now powerful and angry ("Leave The Fallen Behind", "The Fallen Ones With You Tonight", "The Cradle of Nameless") managing to do so even without any uncertainty, pure mastery.
As for the style, we can notice that the standards have not changed much, but never before have all 9 tracks assimilated without signs of fatigue.
The 5 musicians (left orphaned by the violinist Elias) have really put their attributes on the line this time, creating an excellent "musical carpet", completed by the aforementioned vocal performance of Riina. The music moves from skillful mixes of power and gothic symphonies like the opener "Leave The Fallen Behind" (the interlude halfway through the song is stunning) and the long "The Cradle of Nameless" (perhaps the most complete creature of the album, a track worthy of the soundtrack of the best fantasy film), to others more moving like "The Messenger", "A Knife in the Back" and the closing track "La Fin du Monde".
A praise also to the songwriting, which seems to have been the band's strong point for years and here seems to have further strengthened thanks to first-rate lyrics.
Silentium in great shape then: listen to this disc, and the great mastery with which it was created will steal you away for a moment from the real world and take you to another made of forbidden dreams and fallen angels: "Leave the fallen behind, begin to relax and prepare yourself pour La fin du monde, The end of Amortean".
