Silentium is a Finnish gothic metal band formed in 1995, noted for melancholy songwriting, prominent violin parts and female vocals (most recently Riina Rinkinen). The band’s releases discussed on DeBaser include Altum, Seducia and Amortean; bassist/vocalist Matti Aikio is a recurring presence in reviews.

Formed in 1995 in Finland. Altum was released by Spikefarm Records in 2001 (as noted in reviews). Reviews discuss vocal line-up changes (Tiina Lehvonen, Tanya Kemppainen, Riina Rinkinen) and the presence of violin/strings across releases.

Three DeBaser reviews (Altum, Seducia, Amortean) present Silentium as a Finnish gothic/symphonic act with strong songwriting and notable violin presence. Altum is praised as a high point; Seducia is critiqued for derivative elements and problematic male vocals; Amortean is read as a successful comeback highlighting Riina Rinkinen's performance. Overall reception skews favorable.

For:Fans of gothic/symphonic/doom metal, listeners who appreciate female-fronted melancholic songwriting and violin-led arrangements.

The male voice of Matti Aikio is the worst I have ever heard.

the thing that immediately catches the attention is the almost total absence of male vocals, the latter very criticized since it was judged one of the ugliest male voices in the metal world; Matti Aikio (bass and vocals) seems to have almost learned this by focusing on giving his best in playing his 4-string.
