"In reality, humanity is HORROR!!".
But who could that jerk with the idiot voice that Kvarforth's band placed in the first two and a half minutes of the opening track be?? I'm certainly not a wizard in English, but from the little I understand, between a "fuck off" here and a "shit" there, the possessed seems to be talking precisely about Shining and their latest album, and the context it intends to tackle…
Let's take a leap into the past. We had left the band with a masterpiece like "Angst…" and now we find them here, despite the news of their disbandment, with what seems to be the last and definitive album of their career, "The Eerie Cold".
An album that radically changes the musical path that has characterized the band so far, dedicated to a tremendously distressing black metal worthy of being named the progenitors of the "depressive" vein.
The group is reborn into a new life, it seems. Starting with the cover, completely black with what appears to be the blurred shadow of a terrified little girl, to the production, extremely more professional than in the past: much more listenable than before, therefore, and not only in the sounds but also in the songwriting itself.
The first track, as we were saying. As soon as the idiot finishes speaking, the guitar arpeggio is unforgiving: a sense of melody as black as pitch. At first, I can't believe my ears when I hear a guitar solo with a vaguely bluesy flavor (yes, you heard right, a solo!! And there are others in the album!), something quite unusual for Shining… And here comes a wall of distortions rising from nothing, which brings to mind Darkthrone of "Panzerfaust", and it's a genuine declaration of intent. The sonic destruction enacted by the group is deadly, with incredibly grimy guitar lines (but beautifully produced) that alternate with thrashy riffs that recall the best Carpathian Forest… maybe even too much (in the first song it really feels like listening again to "Morbid Fascination Of Death")!!
But above all, it's the melody that rules, as dark and ominous as it's hard to imagine, upheld by arpeggios, solos, slow and melancholic bass lines, with a feeling of anguish to guide the listener by the hand towards the darkest area of Hell.
Kvarforth delivers a deviant and suffering vocal performance, while the rest of the band pounds as if they were casting a curse on all humanity, supported by a dark and profoundly sick atmosphere, with voices coming from afar to express their inner torment.
A lethal journey, a true sonic nightmare you cannot miss.
FUCK HUMANITY!
