"Feasting On Blood" is the first CD by Severe Torture, a band from the Netherlands dedicated to a Brutal Death style clearly influenced by Cannibal Corpse.
This album had become an obsession for me, I was searching for it but never managed to find it (even on DeBaser, they know something about it). What initially drew me in was the cover (which is amazingly cool, let's admit it) and I was very curious to know how the album itself was. Despite the trusted colleague and master Tepes had spoken quite poorly about the band, I was hopeful because the works following this one had really appealed to me. The album, in any case, did not disappoint my expectations; it is raw and straightforward Brutal Death, especially faithful to the old school and the classics of Death Metal. The central themes of the CD are the most intense Gore and, above all, an almost excessive dose of pure blasphemy.
Musically, it's a well-made album, played much better compared to the subsequent "Misanthropic Carnage", where the band tries to speed up the sound but, however, encounters technical smudges. Indeed, the band does not delve into technicalities, although still maintaining medium-high levels. The guitarist engages in sharp riffs that are well interlocked, relying especially on the drums, which beat rhythms that are indeed not very original, but on fairly fast and rhythmic blast beats. The bass exclusively plays an accompanying role, without therefore showcasing itself within the album. The vocalist, in my opinion, has an excellent growl, gritty and low, truly suited to the music presented. Despite a few flaws existing within, the album itself turned out very well, with a good impact on the listener, transitioning from slow rhythms almost tending towards doom to full-fledged brutal onslaughts, with the growler gurgling in that grimy and dark style of his.
Although the band creates skepticism due to its somewhat clownish attitude and perhaps excessively Old School, I find Severe Torture a good example of Brutal Death Metal, a perfect background for your butcher shop! Stay Brutal!!
