Just when I was about to accept the fact that no nu-metal CD would ever excite me again, suddenly, I come across this "Animosity" by Sevendust.
At first, I thought I would find myself facing a typical album that would thrill me for only a few days before consigning it to oblivion, but how wrong I was!!! Sevendust opened me up to a new conception of this genre, inserting unique details and effects into their songs. First and foremost, the details that make the band unique are the powerful voice of singer Layon Witherspoon and the backing vocals of the fiery drummer Morgan Rose.
The album is characterized by simple yet effective riffs with a strong impact. Witherspoon's voice creates truly intense atmospheres and very melodic choruses. The opening track is the devastating "Tits on a boar", which immediately highlights the effectiveness of the vocal alternation. Following this is the big single "Praise", which with its mid-tempo provides a great boost for the listener.
Other very interesting tracks on the album include the unusual "Trust", with very unsettling atmospheres; the great "Crucified", with its truly unique interlude; and "Shine", with a very effective chorus. There are also two really engaging ballads titled "Xmas day" and "Angel's son", where Layon's great voice can be fully appreciated.
The only flaw of the album could be the excessive repetitiveness of the songs, but despite this, it remains a great album, worthy of merit.
