THE REVIEW

It is unfortunate to speak ill of Sepultura, a band that has always given so much to heavy metal: a band that debuted with the raw and overly brutal "Bestial Devastation", only to later produce great works like "Beneath The Remains", "Arise", and "Chaos A.D.", culminating in the majestic "Roots"... Then we know what happened; the quarrel between the Cavalera brothers, Max and Igor, followed by the departure of the current Soulfly leader.
Since then, Sepultura has not been able to regain the harmony that allowed them to produce masterpieces.

And after two uninspired albums like "Against" and "Nation", in 2003 the Brazilian group released yet another uninteresting CD, "Roorback": the biggest flaws are rather poor production and the most embarrassing vocalist I have ever heard in my life. There is no aggression, no ideas, and above all, there is a "muffled" sound. Derrick Green's voice is shameful: where did they find him? He has a "ferocity" that makes him seem like a poor man's Chuck Billy, a very weak screaming, and he doesn't manage to convey any emotion. Do I need to say more?
The few interesting ideas are in the tracks "Come Back Alive", "Apes Of The God", and "The Rift", and there are some decent hardcore accelerations... but damn, from masters like Igor Cavalera and Andreas Kisser I expect better!!!

I refuse to believe that Sepultura was just Max, even if the current members of the Brazilian band are trying to make us believe that...

To avoid. Better to buy ten thousand copies of "Roots" than one of "Roorback".

Summary by Bot

The review laments Sepultura's decline after the departure of the Cavalera brothers, highlighting Roorback's poor production and weak vocals by Derrick Green. While a few tracks show potential, the album overall fails to live up to the band's earlier masterpieces. The reviewer strongly advises against buying this album, recommending the classic Roots instead.

Sepultura have given us a beautiful, capable, aggressive album in pure new Sepultura style.

Enough with this damn stereotype Sepultura=Max, the current members have taken a path that has nothing to do with the old tribe.
