Brazilian metal band formed in Belo Horizonte in 1984, known for influential albums such as Beneath The Remains, Arise, Chaos A.D. and Roots.

Founding members included Max Cavalera (vocals/guitar) and Igor Cavalera (drums). Max Cavalera left the band in 1996; Derrick Green became the group's vocalist thereafter. Sepultura's sound evolved from raw thrash/death to incorporate tribal rhythms and other experiments (notably on Chaos A.D. and Roots).

DeBaser reviews celebrate Sepultura's influential late-80s/90s era (Morbid Visions → Beneath The Remains → Arise → Chaos A.D. → Roots). Reviews praise the band's live energy and early aggression while being mixed-to-negative about post-Cavalera lineups. Chaos A.D., Arise and Roots are repeatedly highlighted as career peaks.
