Simple commercial operation or gift for the fans? Who knows...
The fact is, out of the 18(!!!) songs on this Blood Rooted, nine were written by other people (Jonathan Davis, DJ Lethal, Black Sabbath, Mike Patton, and others), two are demo versions of tracks that would end up on the subsequent platter Roots, and the remaining seven are live versions of tracks from Chaos A.D., including the medley Beneath the Remains/Escape to the Void, a memory of when Sepultura were, most likely, another band.
The tracks written in collaboration with other musicians can be divided into two categories: those written during the Chaos A.D. recordings, which are more metal, and those written during the Roots recordings, which obviously reflect the significant stylistic change of Sepultura, tending towards a very experimental tribal-crossover.
Needless to say, I prefer the former over the latter.
Additionally, Sepultura offers us two demo versions of Dusted and Roots that sound incredibly Slipknot, especially Dusted.
The live tracks, on the other hand, are truly beautiful: reproduced at double the speed of the record, they provide an impressive boost, thanks also to a generally very good recording quality.
A record probably only for the fans who can enjoy hearing both faces of their Sepultura, the metal and the crossover, at their best.
The doubt still remains... Why don't you get a life and grow up Why don't you realize that you're fucked up Why criticize what you don't understand Why change my words, you're so afraid (Propaganda)... unique
