LA RECENSIONE

Characters:

Cj: character from Debaser.

Cris: human being who animates Cj and is animated by him.

Location:

Homepage of Debaser.

Cj has just logged in.

Cris (sleepy eyes and a more groggy voice): what's up?

Cj: about what?

Cris: I don't know, won't someone say something?

Cj: yes, I wanted to write to someone about something somewhere. Here, on the site.

Cris: go ahead then. Write, and I'll watch you.

Cj: I don't know where to begin. Or how.

Silence.

Cris: would you like to write something witty?

Cj: yes, no.

Cris: maybe something provocative?

Cj: no, yes.

Cris: indolent?

Cj: maybe.

Cris: just something?

Cj: perhaps.

Cris gets up, pours a couple of fingers of whisky, and then returns. Cj waits for him with a certain anxiety.

Cj: why do you think we're here?

Cris: here where?

Cj: here. We could be anywhere and yet we're here. Why?

Cris: we are here because we are not there. Nor there. Nor elsewhere.

Cj: right, but why?

Cris: because.

Silence.

Cj: will it arrive?

Cris: I don't know. In the meantime, we've arrived.

Cj: and meanwhile?

Cris: meanwhile what?

Cj: meanwhile, what do we do?

Cris: meanwhile we're here.

Silence.

Cj: what’s it called?

Cris: who?

Cj: the one we are waiting for.

Cris: if I'm not mistaken, it has many names.

Cj: right. Maybe I remember a few. "Insight."

Cris: "Revelation."

Cj: "Enlightenment."

Cris: "Elevation."

Cj: "Enlightenment."

Cris scratches his left cheek distractedly. Then seems to become more focused.

Cris: do you happen to remember how it said it will arrive?

Cj: who?

Cris: the one with many names.

Cj: on something. Or someone.

Cris: like what?

Cj: with a record.

Cris: with a book.

Cj: with an image.

Cris: with a movie.

Cj: with an image.

Silence.

Cris: are you not writing anything then?

Cj: I don't know. What?

Cris: and especially why?

Cj: right. Why?

Cris: maybe to pass the time.

Cj: maybe. Waiting for the one with many names.

Cris: and what if it’s not here where it will arrive? If it were there or maybe over there? Perhaps elsewhere, but not here.

Silence.

Cj: maybe it would be better to leave here.

Cris: perhaps. Would you rather go there?

Cj: maybe.

Cris: or maybe over there?

Cj: maybe.

Cris: maybe the important thing is not to stay here. Let's log out and go.

Cj: yes, let's log out and go.

Cris: then shall we go?

Cj: yes, let's go.

Cris and Cj DO NOT log out and stare at the screen.
