Here at DeBaser I've felt at home since the first time I stumbled upon it, when I was 17. Now, after 4 years of careful reflections, readings, and guitar lessons, I've decided to do something that few (perhaps no one) have done. Review the Album of MY BAND.

Sure, most of you will turn up your noses, but at the end of the day, this is the land of conflict of interest, so let me continue. And, in the end, it's not even a review; it's more of an experience I had and wanted to share with you, who are part of my life and have helped me grow in the cultural-philological-musical field.

So firstly, almost everyone knows how songs are created. Some use the computer, others write the lyrics first and then the music, most (us included) strum a chord progression that we like and invent everything from there, based on the music's sound to inspire the subject the song could talk about.

Well, nothing complicated, then the fun begins later. In the rehearsal room, the song is refined, meaning we choose the riffs, rhythms, vocal lines, etc. so we insult each other freely if one of us isn't convinced by the idea, we fight heavily, then we make peace and start composing again.

Then, when you get to the recording studio, it's another mess. We recorded the Album with Pro Tools on separate tracks (so first the drums with a metronome, then the bass, then the piano, keyboards, rhythm guitar, solos, then the voice and backing vocals last), and it was looong.. Anyway, after 6 days of sessions and another 2 of mixing (during which the sound engineer and producer almost came to blows), the CD is finished!

The Album (which contains ten songs) required a year and a few months of work, gigs around the most unusual and infamous venues, and sleepless nights to be completed. We are very proud of it because it's our first LP, brought to life under a record label which offered us a very advantageous contract (for them, hey! not for us). But we do not complain; in fact, we're bursting with excitement. Want a taste?

1) PRENDI I SOLDI E SCAPPA has a very engaging bass line and then everyone joins in. It's about a heist in "Point Break" style and is the most appreciated piece live.

2) PERCHE' NON PROVI? is about a guy who asks the girl to dare.. um.. more in intimacy.. it could be the summer single. Appreciated by males of all ages, a little less by the fair sex. Rock n Roll in A Major.

5) MUSICA DEL DIAVOLO I wrote it after reading the biography of Led Zeppelin, I have always been fascinated by the legend of the bluesman waiting at the country crossroads to sign a contract with the Devil, promising him, in exchange for his soul, plenty of women, money, and guaranteed success. Obviously, nowadays the music of the devil is no longer blues, but its accelerated version: Rock n Roll.

6) ORA O MAI PIU' wants to make clear that we are not immune to the charm of the Red Hot Chili Peppers either. Text homage to the "dead poets society".

9) ROCKABILLY TOWN is a bit like the sum of our lives as broke musicians. The utopia is the city of music where both genres are played: rock and roll!

The rest of the songs listen to them (if you want) and tell me what you think!

Faithfully, yours

JC

Sajanega take rock from the source and distill it with care and passion.

Musica del Diavolo is genuinely pleasant and not clichéd as the times would suggest.
