LA RECENSIONE

His name was Leroy, just Roy to friends, and there's little to say about this wonderful version by Neil Young, except, um, there's much to listen to and nothing...

He was a "half man and half wolf" by his own admission.

They found him hanged with his own shirt in the Fairfax prison cell in Virginia.

The official report spoke of suicide, but other sources claimed he was shot to death by police while he was drunk.

It's said that Jimi Hendrix would never have taken the stage with Him to avoid being overshadowed by him as a guitarist.

He also covered some of JH's songs, including the infamous "Hey Joe" and even "If 6 Was 9".

To support his family for some time, he was forced to work part-time as a barber, never abandoning his faithful guitar.

Appreciated by artists of the caliber of John Lennon, Eric Clapton, and the Rolling Stones, besides the aforementioned Jimi, he influenced many guitarists, including Robbie Robertson, Gary Moore, Danny Gatton, Arlen Roth, Jeff Beck, David Gilmour, Jerry Garcia, Mick Ronson, Nils Lofgren, Jim Campilongo, and Steve Kimock.

They said of Him:

  • He was great, very great, the best guitarist I have ever seen. (Robbie Robertson)

  • Perhaps no one had ever played the blues with as much elegance as He did. (Piero Scaruffi)

He was also known as "The man who turned the Stones down", or "The man who refused the Stones", but above all as:

"The greatest unknown guitarist in the world".
