As a big fan of rock and its derivatives, I am always on the lookout for new bands stepping into the overcrowded world of quality music and beyond... browsing here and there, I discovered this new revelation band, already hinting at this in their pseudonym, currently supporting Evanescence on their World Tour...
The Revelation Theory are a quartet from New York, offering with exaggerated power a very engaging metal. Everything is emphasized by the insane voice of frontman Rich Luzzi, who live spices up performances with a powerful and raspy timbre.
But let's get to this "Truth Is Currency," their debut album, introduced by the great single "Slowburn". The album is a succession of powerful and decisive riffs, accompanied by a fast, effective, and indispensable drum, alongside Luzzi's roaring voice, creating a perfect amalgam, in a sound that at times echoes that of Sevendust, their "patron" in their early steps on US stages. The work opens with "M367 (Out Of Our Hands)", which fittingly kicks off the ten tracks, immediately showing the band’s quality, with powerful riffs and a raspy voice, followed by "Slowburn", as mentioned before, their debut single, a track that starts bounding energetically, with the voice preceded by an intro made of nervous guitars, which then accompany an aggressive and very powerful timbre in the choruses.
"After The Rain", as the title suggests, has a melancholic character but delivers a powerful sound, with biting but at the same time melodic guitars, marrying a rock voice, which I believe is one of the most engaging and suitable for the genre to which it is dedicated. "Leaving It Up To You" is, in my opinion, the least valuable track on the CD, although it keeps the level high thanks to the sound which doesn’t lose quality. "Selfish and Cold" is the power ballad, an amazing piece, starting gently, showcasing the completeness of Rich Luzzi's vocal talents, opening and closing the song by whispering the phrase "Your Voice Is Killing Me", which sums up the sentimental character of one of the most beautiful and representative pieces of the debut album. "Take Away" reminds us that the power of Revelation Theory is something concrete, because after the ballad, this will be the first of four irresistible tracks of significant power, creating an almost progressive crescendo, to be listened to at full volume. Then "Undone" ramps up the tones of the previous piece, opening frenetically and continuing in an even more nervous and powerful way, Luzzi gives his best in one of those episodes that will undoubtedly offer strong emotions live. "Loathe" opens with a quick bass line, followed by a shy and then firm snare drum, combining in a single solution on the choruses. The last powerful piece is "World To Burn", the penultimate track, which shakes once more, offering a truly significant guitars and drums combo, creating the right backing for a voice that doesn’t miss a beat. Beautiful. It closes with "Over The Line", the album's pure ballad, an almost acoustic piece, again proving the frontman's vocal abilities. The melody is also accompanied by the piano, which after the choruses, even with a handful of notes, significantly accompanies guitar and voice.
In short, an excellent work from Revelation Theory, complete, powerful but also melodic, never boring or predictable, ten tracks each with its own character, an important thing for a debuting group. I believe ten solid tracks are better than a large number of songs that end up being boring and scattered. In the States, the quartet is receiving a good success, especially critically; their sound is defined as innovative and powerfully engaging, with a lot expected from the band’s future, as they have been promoting the work for almost two years now, between Europe and America. As always happens in Italy, their album is missing from our shelves; I got it by purchasing it online. If you have the chance to do the same don’t miss it, to get an idea listen to the samples on the official site and check out the video of the first single. Give it a try to believe...
