The Profile

Red Sparowes is an American instrumental post-rock/post-metal band formed in Los Angeles in 2003 by members and alumni of groups including Isis, Neurosis affiliates, Halifax Pier, Angel Hair, and Pleasure Forever. They are known for cinematic, guitar-driven soundscapes and three studio albums released between 2005 and 2010.

Formed in Los Angeles (2003). Instrumental band featuring members connected to Isis and Neurosis (via collaborators), among others. Studio albums: At the Soundless Dawn (2005), Every Red Heart Shines Toward the Red Sun (2006), The Fear Is Excruciating, but Therein Lies the Answer (2010). EP: Aphorisms (2008).

DeBaser’s reviewers hail Red Sparowes’ debut as a small masterpiece fusing post-rock scope with post-metal heft. The second album is praised for expansive, psychedelic textures. The 2010 record splits opinions, admired for production but critiqued as an exercise in style. References abound to Isis, Neurosis, GY!BE, and Mogwai. Overall tone: admiration with a touch of tough love.
