It was March 24, 1984, when the first and most famous album by the Los Angeles band "Ratt" was released under the record label "Atlantic Records".
The album was recorded between '83 and '84. Its success was mainly due to their most famous hit "Round and Round", which was played non-stop on radio stations of the time, and to other high-quality tracks such as "Wanted Man", "Back For More", and "Lack of Communication".
But now let's take a closer look at the product: as soon as we put the disc in the player, "Wanted Man" will start, a track with strong Western atmospheres that flows seamlessly thanks to Stephen Pearcy's unmistakable raspy and rich voice and the support of Robbin Crosby's and young Warren DeMartini's guitars; the next track, "You're in Trouble", begins with a nice bass line by Juan Croucier (whom we have already seen in Dokken's first album "Breaking the Chains") before exploding. The track is a bit repetitive and trivial but still appreciable; the next is the prestigious "Round and Round", the most famous track of their entire career, also included in the soundtrack of the game "Grand Theft Auto: Vice City Stories"; it then follows with "In Your Direction", one of my favorite tracks, leading up to the fantastic "She Wants Money", the hard "Lack of Communication", the more melodic "Back For More", and the phenomenal "The Morning After", without a doubt my favorite of the entire album.
In conclusion, I certainly cannot recommend listening to this album because it undoubtedly hasn’t made Metal history, but it still carved out a small slice for itself.
Stephen Pearcy, with that hoarse voice, raucous and terribly sensual, was the uncontested idol of my adolescence.
This is great rock’n’roll, and if anyone thinks otherwise, they can just fuck off.
