June 14, 2008, remember this date well, because it happens to be the date of one of the greatest concerts ever held in our nation. It's the concert of RAGE AGAINST THE MACHINE!!! Reunited after eight years to give us one last thrill before disappearing...

The concert is opened by Linea77 and then by Gallows, the sun sets... it's their moment, the wait is very nerve-wracking, every three or four times the background music that entertains us disappears and tricks us into thinking they are entering, but still nothing, they don't come out.

Then at one point, not only does the music go down, but the lights too, and then there was a never-ending roar. There they are, I was expecting an entrance like "Good evening we are Rage Against The Machine from Los Angeles California" but no, they did even more! The lights come to life and you see these four elements side by side dressed in orange Guantanamo prisoner suits and black hoods, they go to their instruments and start: "Bombtrack" total delirium, panic scenes, a heat never felt at any other concert, they are impeccable from a technical point of view, they make us jump like crazy; it's just the beginning then comes "Bulls on parade" and from there I incredulously say to myself, "damn I'm not in my fucking room in front of a stereo, this riff comes directly from Tom Morello's fingers!!!" it's the turn of "People of the sun" a thousand emotions pierce my heart while a thousand sounds pierce my ears, it's mad chaos, they don't give us time to catch our breath and "Testify" starts, the crowd-surfing reaches indescribable levels, I move meters and meters in seconds... I thought after this I could endure any crowd-surfing in the world, but I didn't know they were going to play "Know your enemy" next so for those who know RATM I'll let you imagine and avoid comments on making chaos and such things.

My heart was racing with emotion and exhaustion, Rage has always been a reference point for me and with them one song in particular "Bullet in the head" they start playing it, I was there like paralyzed, immune, vegetative, I turn around and feel like smiling seeing all those people who like me had that light in their eyes and shouted out loud "A BULLET IN YA HEAD" in the end there was one of those applauses that starts not to say "well done you did it very well", but starts to say "thank you, thank you for playing it" Zack doesn’t even take a second to take a drink before they immediately start with "Down rodeo" and "Renegades of funk", the latter performed with a slower key than usual but remarkable nonetheless. Reached this point of the concert I step back from the central area to rest but then hear the opening notes of "Born of a broken man" and I think that such an opportunity I will never have again in my life and to hell with everyone and everything I throw myself back into the fray to crowd-surf to one of the songs I’ve worn out the most on the stereo in the last nine years.

After that, you see Tom change guitars and go kneel down by the amplifier, there we all realize they are about to play "Guerilla radio" more powerful and fierce than ever, subsequently they emitted a series of sounds that together gave life to "Calm like a bomb", there was nothing to do for three songs now it was the moment of glory of "Battle of Los Angeles" so "Sleep now in the fire" could not be left out which only confirmed that the absurdities Morello does with the guitar are not the result of a recording studio but rather the work of a guitarist unique in his kind. It’s the turn of "Wake up" with this piece they transmit so many memories to me, of unforgettable moments when I was a damn kid and shouted "WAAAAKEEE UUUPP" in my little room and my mom would invariably scold me saying that the neighbors would sue us one day or another, but this time in Modena my mom wasn't there and you can imagine how much I could shout. Finished "Wake up" Rage disappears from the stage, but they don't keep us waiting long and come back on stage more charged than ever to let us hear the notes of a piece that I think made a little bit of all of us think, I’m talking about "Freedom". Then they give us another piece "Township rebellion" stunning as ever. By now an hour and a half had passed they had played 15 pieces I was very happy, but something was still missing and that something is called "KILLING IN THE NAME OF".

The concert ends here, Rage Against The Machine gave me one of the best days of my life and I believe not just me but more than twenty thousand people. I can’t wait to grow old and sit outside a bar with a little table, playing cards with some other senile old man to be able to see one day a kid walk by with a Rage shirt stop him and tell him… "you know when I was young I saw them live"…
