I
"A music that comes straight from the heart knows how to speak to the listener and knows how to bridge the intangible distances that run between spirits and worlds, however akin".
There are times when I come to believe, to entirely convince myself that to capture and know how to convey something engaging, an emotion, an important feeling, it is necessary to reduce the distances, to somehow bring closer two worlds that may be very far apart. I mean, to enter the heart of the one in front of you by touching their intimacy, their sacred, in that tender gazebo that they jealously preserve, adorned and sealed by strange dreams and colors; that sacred that, as we know, can sometimes also mean tradition, can be the perpetuation of a profound understanding. A disinterested phrase thrown there, sporadic hints of strange (re)mixes, combinations of destiny.
Here, a subtle pleasure sparks that permeates your soul. The soul yearns for understanding.
This is a music that comes straight from the heart....
This is the latest "fairy tale" that Radiodervish wants to tell us.
II - L'immagine di te (2007)
The new Radiodervish present themselves in a more admirably pop guise, compared to the 'full immersion' in the unusual world of the chanting Balkan atmospheres, rich in that captivating, crystalline charm that marked some of their early albums (think especially of the first Al Darawish and the masterpiece "Centro Del Mundo", full of colors, suggestions, so personal and sophisticated). Obviously, the fact that the production is entrusted to a great like Franco Battiato (assisted by his adventure partner and faithful collaborator, Pino 'Pinaxa' Pischetola) has influenced significantly, especially in the choice of arrangements. Suspended, sunny, evocative, comparable for their dryness and wise fusion of orchestral layers with more electronic parts, precisely to the latest work ("Il Vuoto") by the Sicilian author.
"L'immagine di te" is a warm, sweet, carefree, heartfelt receptacle of emotions, simple and pure like the nine gems that compose it. All tracks are signed by Nabil Salameh (vocals), Michele Lobaccaro (guitars), and Alessandro Pipino (keyboards), with a contribution in the writing of text and music of "Babel" by Michele Salvemini (aka Caparezza). Dominate the scene, delicate fabrics of guitars, and piano that intersect with often whispered strings - "L'immagine di te", "Tutto quello che ho", "Milioni di promesse", "Stella briciola di campo" - sometimes inlaid with minimalist electronic arrangements -"Avatar"- or cloaked by an almost sacred aura ("Se vinci tu").
The sound, (always devoid of any artifice), has become progressively more ethereal. Even the lyrics, collages of images and thoughts, are bare creatures, yet so vivid... Vivid like the memory of "Yara", and its alluring Middle Eastern charm. Vivid like the hope of a possible peace between Palestine and Israel or like the drama of clandestinity (the melodic gasps of Nabil often make reference to it). Vivid like the anger towards people's hypocrisy, unleashed by Caparezza, who bursts in, surprisingly, in the midst of a delicate track like "Babel"; contagious like the tarantular power that dwells in the amusing and cynical "Sama Beirut". Vivid is the feeling of falling in love that the radiant Nabil nurtures and tends to, like a star fished from the placid night. From the tracklist "Yara" is perhaps the most beautiful track, a corollary to yet another journey with a multiethnic flavor, with a wonderful singing in Griko (Greek - Salento dialect) by Alessia Tondo, perfectly supported by a barely perceptible, traveling musical structure.
Radiodervish is a beautiful reality.
The creature is alive, more alive than ever. It lies there under the sun's rays. It feeds on their energy, and matures with its classic, unparalleled quality in telling itself and in storytelling.
III
It is "the image of a sunset". Of the raging struggle that rages between blood-red (both of passion and intolerance) and the aspirations of a sky, though clear, languid and withdrawn in itself.
This is the contemplation of our destiny.
"Sorry love. This night is mine."
