THE REVIEW

1974, we are at the Rainbow Theatre in London; a group of 4 guys who are relatively new to the music scene is performing (their debut album, if we exclude "Queen In Nuce", is dated 1973 with "Queen"). However, they already have 3 albums behind them, but in my opinion, they are not just simple albums: authentic masterpieces.

The resulting live performance is magnificent with the four in great shape, particularly Freddie with his jumpsuits, long hair, and black-lacquered nails... very different from the image that (almost) everyone has of Freddie with a yellow jacket, white trousers, and the mustache of '86, the year of the Magic Tour.

But above all, his voice, which reaches unimaginable heights, close to the heavenly! Alongside his splendid performance, there is the great performance of Brian, Roger, and John, that evening perfect and highly charged.

As for the songs, certainly, they may not mean much to fans who are not long-time followers, but in my opinion, they are among the best in their repertoire and as already mentioned, they did not have an extensive discography at that time; Here are the songs:

  • Procession
  • Now I'm Here
  • Ogre Battle
  • White Queen (as it began)
  • In The Laps Of The Gods
  • Killer Queen
  • The March Of Black Queen
  • Bring Back That Leroy Brown
  • Son And Daughter
  • Father To Son
  • Keep Yourself Alive
  • Liar
  • Stone Cold Crazy
  • In The Lap Of The God...Revisited
  • Jailhouse Rock
  • God Save The Queen

It is certainly a concert that is not easy to find and not long in duration, indeed, but I truly recommend it to everyone as I consider it among the best of Queen's concerts. As for the audience, there is certainly no competition with the more famous Wembley, but in terms of performance, in my opinion, it is definitely superior.

Freddie Mercury's powerful vocals and dynamic stage presence are praised alongside strong contributions from Brian, Roger, and John.
