It is difficult to imagine how a band from Manchester could almost have more admirers in Greece than in their homeland.

Then add the record label, the famous Island Records, and also the artists for whom Puressence have opened some shows (Iggy Pop, Depeche Mode, Suede).

The four guys decided to start their own career as a group after they crossed paths on the way to the same concert (the Stone Roses at Spike Island in 1990).

The little interest from the major regarding distribution and marketing had to inevitably be linked to the "problem" of context. The nineties; the English music market saturated with -more or less- sensational and massively hyped proposals.

For those who arrived late, there were few crumbs of promotion left from the press, but the buts must arrogantly rise in this case.

The sound quality of Puressence is indisputable. The tone of James Mudrickzi is elegantly tormented. A falsetto that is hard not to capture attention. It is paired with a guitar frenzy that in Only Forever is less emphasized (compared to other albums). They prefer to smooth the edges and soften (but not dull) the proposal.

This Feeling is the track I recommend to get an idea.

Only Forever is their second (and most famous) album. It presents itself without frills or promises, and devoid of any particularly rock n' roll flair. It is an album of pieces written and arranged by strumming a guitar and definitely retracing arduous paths; atmospheres undoubtedly culpable of penetrating even the most prejudiced, I am sure.
