Coito ergo sum

The most vulgar, foul-mouthed, and "socially useful" group is back with a new album. Prophilax takes us once again on a musical adventure made of sex, vulgarity, but also corruption, falsehood, politics, and more.

"Coito ergo sum", the title of their latest pornographic effort, made us wait for a long time. The band's last official work was "Il quinto escremento", followed by the live "Analive", both of which were very successful with songs that soon became classics for the band.

I have to say that the musical validity of the Roman combo is not in question: top-notch musicians, true experts in music (Ludovico, aka Sbohr, is a true master of the six strings), but perhaps this time they focused a bit too much on the social and protest aspect of the lyrics and a bit less on the musical aspect, which might be marginal in their artistic proposal, but is equally important.

Ceppaflex (Fabio Pinci in real life) has issues with everyone, starting with the Church (examples include "Clerottura dei Cojoni" and "Frate 'nkiappetto", two brief ones), to the current society ("Vivi e lascia Chiavare", "Altri cazzi, stessi culi", or the hilarious "Corchiamo la vigilessa"), moving through television and radio censorship ("Silicojone" and "Mandami in radio col bip", two of the most brilliant episodes of this new album). Lighter themes aren't missing, such as "Big Bamboo" or "Stronzemon".

Almost every song is introduced by an amusing introduction, acted by the musicians.

However, I repeat, besides the social struggle, this album astonished me for a fundamental repetitiveness, something I didn't notice in the previous one, which, besides being more entertaining, was also exciting due to some well-chosen musical decisions. Here the riffs are nothing exceptional, the melodies are poor, and the solos a bit too flamboyant.

An album to be taken for what it is: a great protest, with great themes treated with their unmistakable crude language, but we're still talking about music, and that part here doesn't really surprise.
