The reviews celebrate Propaganda’s synth-pop artistry from the ZTT debut A Secret Wish (1985) through the Virgin-era follow-up 1234 (1990). Highlights include Claudia Brücken’s distinctive voice, the Poe-inspired Dream Within a Dream, and hit singles Dr. Mabuse, Duel, and P‑Machinery. 1234 is praised as strong and consistent, if less groundbreaking than the debut.
