We could define Prologue Of A New Generation as one of the many (good) Italian responses to what djent (or alternative metal, call it what you will) made in the UK/Australia has served us in recent years. Unlike many colleagues intent on showcasing technical skills above average — consequently becoming boring after three/four listens — the young band from Trento shows significant artistic freshness, which results in bold choices in terms of broad melodic structures. “Mindtrip” is an album that wants to be modern but at the same time is not afraid to incorporate typical elements of prog, metal, and rock, showing us how sometimes courage is that quality that is missing when moving towards decidedly closed artistic sound shores. Of course, Prologue Of A New Generation haven't invented anything new either; however, at least what they have done in tracks like “The Perfection Exists” and “Introspective” gives hope and especially shows anyone who has never understood “this djent” that fundamentally, it’s a genre that is still quite open-minded. Take the softer side of Northlane's “Mesmer” and combine it with the instrumental clarity of Monuments and Volumes, and the result will come very close to “Mindtrip.”
