PRIMOVERE - "Rest Well, Rainbow Kid"(self-produced)

Post rock, new wave, and indie are undoubtedly the three main paths that PRIMOVERE, a Turin-based band, follows. They were forced to a halt due to the pandemic but now finally appear on the scene with this four-track EP, each more convincing than the last. Starting with Souvenirs, the most captivating track of the EP, where they don't just indulge in mainstream pop but wrap it in the sounds they've grown up with, making it float with excellent shoegazing hints. Dopamine, too, doesn't joke around when it comes to catchiness. The song's formula, which clearly takes and draws heavily from British pop-rock, because of this background that is decisively part of the band's DNA, makes Dopamine a track that, even if some might label it as a “derivative” song (Coldplay, The National), it isn't at all because, while clearly attached to this across-the-channel background, they already have the maturity and ability to make it their own.

In short, an EP to listen to with great attention, in anticipation of something more substantial (the album) that fully unveils all the band's capabilities.
