THE REVIEW

Just read the acknowledgments at the end of the booklet to understand who you're dealing with: besides the usual thanks to the crew, there are thanks to the unforgettable Devo, champions of demented electronic pop. Now take Devo and let four wacky Japanese listen to them, and you'll get Polysics.

Disgustingly punk guitars mixed with gaudy synths and vintage vocoder, the singing is halfway between a video game and a cartoon, adding a touch of healthy madness to the whole. "Polysics or Die!!!" is their first "Best Of" so you don't encounter the inevitable stylistic falls of their albums, and thus you have the exaggerated screams of "Kaja Kaja Goo", the irreverent vocoder in the cover of "My Sharona", nervous tracks like "XCT" or J-Pop gems like "Black Out Fall Out".

Highly recommended CD, ideal for the car stereo on a Saturday night or any other moment of fun-filled pogo.

POLYSICS

POLYSICS are a Japanese new wave/synthpunk band from Tokyo, formed in 1997 by Hiroyuki Hayashi. Known for high-energy performances, uniforms, and visor-style glasses, they channel and twist Devo’s legacy into hyperactive, glitchy pop-punk.
