If you're wondering why the much-praised (at least by his "fans") Ville Laihiala struggles to find fame and glory, the answer lies in this album.
Labeled by the media as gothic metal, justified only by the lyrics in practice, "Lust Stained Despair" is the second work of Poisonblack.
Eleven tracks very pleasant to listen to, but lacking a true soul, firstly because originality does not reign, and secondly because even the lyrics do not shine with their own light. It is therefore difficult to move beyond sufficiency with these assumptions that emerge upon the first analysis and almost threaten to consign the album to oblivion.
Lust Stained Despair opens with "Nothing Else Remains", which introduces the themes and sound that we will find throughout the album (despite featuring the only decent solo in the entire album), continues with "Hollow Be My Name", a good idea, but nothing more. From here on, mediocrity sets in, the level only rises with "Rush" and "Nail", the best songs of the album, and drops significantly with "Pain Becomes Me", a ballad completely unsuited to the singer's voice.
In essence, therefore, a wasted opportunity: continuous walls of guitar and a few electronic effects support Ville's cavernous voice throughout the album; everything is technically well done, but the chronic lack of originality and creative capacity prevents the work from taking off, keeping it more oriented towards alternative lovers than metal sounds.
Truly excellent, though, are the CD cover and booklet.
