I don't know where to start describing this album, nothing was done by chance, everything is almost too perfect, starting from the cover, to the title "Feel the Darkness", to the arrangement of the tracks, the photos in the booklet, and naturally the songs themselves.
Pounding and fast tracks run on the razor's edge between Metal and Punk. There is nothing to criticize about their performance skills, no mishaps or hyper-perfections typical of bands in the genre are felt throughout the album. Blues scales and electric guitars, tight rhythms, and very aggressive vocals, songs that are not very short but adrenaline-fueled, make this record one of my favorites.
Poison Idea has rightfully been labeled as one of the most self-destructive bands in the scene, naturally their nihilistic spirit is strongly felt even in this album, accompanied nonetheless by other themes: from classic rock stories like in "Just to Get Away", from disgust towards society like in "Nation of Finks" or a deep sense of misunderstanding like in "Alan's on Fire". Perhaps the most overrated track on the album is "Plastic Bomb", always a good track but far too similar to "I Hate You" by D.R.I.
Listening to this album is always a pleasure, and today under the notes of "Death of an Idiot Blues" we remember Tom Pig Champion, their enormous guitarist who died in solitude after a life of excess.
Surely "Feel the Darkness" is a record that all fans of the genre should own.
