The Profile

American country-rock band formed in 1968 after Buffalo Springfield’s breakup, noted for close harmonies and Rusty Young’s pedal steel. Achieved mainstream success in 1978 with Legend, featuring Crazy Love and Heart of the Night.

Founded by Richie Furay and Jim Messina with Rusty Young; early members included Randy Meisner (later an Eagle) and Timothy B. Schmit (who also later joined the Eagles). Paul Cotton joined in 1970–71, shaping a rock-leaning edge. Key albums covered here include Pickin' Up the Pieces (1969), Deliverin' (1971), A Good Feelin' to Know (1972), Crazy Eyes (1973), Seven (1974), Head Over Heels (1974), Cantamos (1974), Rose of Cimarron (1976), and Legend (1978). The band reunited its original lineup for Legacy (1989). Rusty Young and Paul Cotton both passed away in 2021.

DeBaser’s reviews track Poco from their 1969 debut and the live Deliverin’ through 70s peaks like A Good Feelin’ to Know, Cantamos, Crazy Eyes, Rose of Cimarron, and Seven. Legend (1978) brings the big hits Crazy Love and Heart of the Night. Later eras include the slick but uneven reunion Legacy (1989) and a harsh verdict on Running Horse (2002). Threads: Buffalo Springfield origins, Paul Cotton and Timothy B. Schmit joining, and Rusty Young’s multi-instrumental sparkle.
