If SGT PEPPER is the worst side of Abbey Road Studios, this album is undoubtedly the flip side of the coin (in fact, it was recorded simultaneously in the same studio).
IN MY OPINION, "THE ALBUM".
The way Barret's paranoia embraces fairy-tale settings, all wrapped in a touch of cotton wool, creates one of the most perfect albums the human ear can listen to.
The album begins with a space journey, halfway between science fiction and a fairy tale. Just as whimsical is LUCIFER SAM, a song inspired by Syd's big cat... it is said to contain references to Satanism, but honestly, I've never detected them, and even searching online, nothing concrete is found, only very vague rumors...
For all those who think they can understand what LSD is by listening to LUCY IN THE SKY WITH DIAMONDS by the Beatles... I would recommend listening to "Flaming", a track that truly takes the listener to other planets thanks to the lyrics that leave little to the imagination and the music that serves only to amplify this state.
The perhaps more daring tracks (which might cause some frowns) are certainly Pow R. Toch H. and "Interstellar Overdrive"... tracks where psychedelia reigns supreme, the latter undoubtedly surpassing the former, tracks truly capable of taking your mind out of your body! (I strongly advise against listening to this album while driving if you don't want to risk accidents due to catharsis eheheh)
With the trend of THE LORD OF THE RINGS that has now captivated all the kids today, a track like "The Gnome" should definitely be dusted off: a ballad from other times where the fairy tale mentioned initially regains possession of the album and tells the life of GRIMBLE GROMBLE in his lively village.
The album then flows on this path, finally arriving at BIKE, which concludes this marvelous journey through the mind of Syd Barrett, with a sort of recap... the track is indeed the most complete of the album, as it is perhaps the only one to incorporate all the themes told.
in short, this is THE ALBUM... unjustly underrated, it is certainly the greatest work of Pink Floyd!
