Probably EMI isn't satisfied with Katy Perry's sales to fill their coffers; every occasion is a good one to resurrect old bands, so it was evidently necessary to propose an "Echoes part 2", another best-of which is nothing more than the re-proposal of tracks that ten years ago became part of the gigantic greatest-hits that had considerable success. In short, "A Foot In The Door" is a script of the 2001 album, just a bit slimmed down to fit all the tracks on a single CD.
The choices of songs are, to be honest, a bit unfortunate. Ample space is given to the great successes post-"The Dark Side Of The Moon" (1973); nine of the sixteen songs are taken either from "The Dark Side Of The Moon" or "The Wall" (1979); however, an nonexistent role is given to the slightly less commercial and more experimental songs contained in the very first albums (the only exception being "See Emily Play").
Alongside the classic, evergreen "Time", "Money", "Another Brick In The Wall", "Wish You Were Here", there’s also room for the band's later works (which, to be honest, are worth almost nothing), represented by "High Hopes" (contained in "The Division Bell" - 1994) and "Learning To Fly" (present in "A Momentary Lapse of Reason" - 1987). Roger Waters himself, questioned about these later works when he had already left Gilmour and company on their own, described them as "just rubbish", which I think is a concise but effective judgment. "The songs are poor in general" Waters continued, and it's true, both from the lyrical and instrumental viewpoint, far light-years away from the masterpieces of the '70s.
There's not much more to say, the compilation is, to sum up, useless because it is a repetition of "Echoes: The Best Of Pink Floyd"; the earnest advice is not to purchase the album, especially due to an unfortunate choice of tracks. The 2001 collection is definitely more effective from this point of view, but, if I had to spend money, I would invest it in one of the classics that made this band great and memorable. (5/10)
