Pier Cortese is a Roman singer-songwriter who is part of the circle of more "well-known" artists in the music scene of the capital...
He often plays with friends Cristicchi and Marco Fabi, but certainly does not disdain the other Fabi, Niccolò, who is somewhat the uncle of the "emerging" Roman musicians... Pier Cortese's album is only coming out now, after making his radio debut two years ago with Souvenir, a song inspired by the boulevards of Paris, with a light and pleasant musicality. In the meantime, Pier plays, writes, and plays again, always on the move but remaining a bit in the shadows. However, still in 2005 he wins the first prize of Musicultura with the track Basilico, a moment of simplicity and metaphor of human relationships, those of everyday life. And so this year it's time for 'Contraddizioni', a reflection on today's society, ruled by money and television, neglecting the pleasures of everyday life...
As he says in Prima che cambierà "everything is natural like mineral water that refreshes the wait", another snapshot of simple values and feelings, but treated with a sweet poetry. Probably the album is not a masterpiece, but you can feel that Cortese has talent and above all passion, which makes this record special. And it’s something new too, which doesn’t hurt, with a sound that doesn't torment you but cradles and reconciles you, without too many pretensions.
Having said that, there's no point in analyzing all the songs, but I want to highlight what I personally consider the gem of "Contraddizioni". "The Silent Song", the "free" song (and Battisti is explicitly mentioned) of those who don't need to shout to convey something, of those who know how to whisper, or use silence.

Cortese’s album is simple but never trivial.
‘Canzone silenziosa’ is one of the most beautiful songs the Italian scene has offered us in recent decades.
