First E.P. of our local band Phenomena, a group emerging for the first time on the Italian rock scene. The band takes its name from a highly successful film by Dario Argento and offers energetic rock strongly inspired by bands such as Christian Death, The Cure, NIN, Marilyn Manson, Depeche Mode, Metallica, Marlene Kuntz, and Smashing Pumpkins to name a few.
The track that opens the CD is titled "La Riflessione", an aggressive and dreamy song dominated by an incessant progressive-style guitar and a highly explosive drum, in my opinion, it is the most beautiful and best-executed track on the entire CD. It is followed by "L'Odio Della Notte", a dark rock track with notable punk influences of ancient memory, dark and distorted. The third song "Corpi Tremanti" is a poetic ballad that recalls noise or post-grunge. The CD closes with the cover of Marilyn Manson's "Coma White", well-played and energetically rock. I could conclude by saying that "Atto I" is certainly an interesting work from all points of view. Technical and inspired, it is an excellent calling card for this new Italian band, and one to keep an eye on because I'm sure if they continue to work this well, they'll go far. The artwork is evocative, depicting an angel surprising a maiden in the dead of night, attacking her with a sword; the room decorated with red drapes seems to evoke the grand guignol and fits well for a theatrical act.
Let's now move on to the technical aspect of the individual musicians: Domenico Di Maria is an inspired singer, with poetic and pathos-filled lyrics, a high and clear voice. Guitarist Giuseppe Lavagna gives us a truly complete guitar rock with powerful, technical, and clean riffs and a guitar that uses all existing effects in just four tracks. Gaetano Sinardi on drums is a versatile percussionist, very well-prepared and manages to fit well into all very different tracks. The touch of the double bass is excellent in the first song. Carlo Spedalieri's bass is punctual and aggressive, only in the first track does it appear a bit too distorted throughout the acoustic verse. The figure of the female voice of Elisa Ferrara also stands out, often appearing in the background and creating contrast with Domenico's high voice as hers is a female voice, but lower compared to the singer's. The quality of the recording could certainly be improved in the future.
I conclude by saying that I like this band and I give them the highest rating, I sincerely hope to hear their debut album soon.
