Concert recorded in 2006 in the hometown of Norwegian drummer Paal Nissen-Love (already author of several albums under the name of Scorch Trio), "SweetSweat" turns out to be from the first listen a vital and vibrant record at the same time.

Peter Brotzmann, active for more than forty years in the field of the most chaotic and dissonant free jazz, has not lost his characteristic style that has made him one of the leading exponents of the European movement.

The album reaches its peak of ecstasy during the lengthy "Burnt Sugar", over half an hour of improvisation in which the saxophone howls all its fury from the opening of the piece, with Nilsen-Love's drums serving as a perfect counterpoint, between drum rolls and percussive parts.

There is also room for excellent drum solos, especially in the closing piece "Weird Blue", while in "SweetSweat", the opening track, Brotzmann also plays the clarinet, with delicate and slightly sketched phrases, a highly percussive and atmospheric track in its first five minutes that then gradually becomes more and more disturbing and devoted to wild improvisation, never losing any of its intense energy and its now-famous incendiary style.

An album, certainly difficult and hard to assimilate, but one that I recommend for Brotzmann fans, an artist of a myriad of projects and always ready for the most diverse collaborations, so those who follow him will hardly be disappointed by this work, which I personally consider very valid and worthy of multiple listens.
