Perturbazione are one of the major Italian alternative pop bands of the 2000s. With this 2002 album, they achieved a decent level of national success. Recorded in 2001 by the multi-talented Fabio Magistrali, ''In Circolo'' gained good visibility thanks to the video for ''Agosto,'' which in 2004, a couple of years after the album's release, showcased the band's melancholic and visual style.

''Agosto,'' with its expressive and surreal lyrics, accompanied by the comic book-like images of the video, brought originality to the band's artistic proposal and led them to tour around Italy, performing live for the next two years. However, the mentioned track is not the only successful moment on the album; ''In Circolo'' is a little gem filled with post-adolescent lyrics and themes. Some absolutely unmissable tracks are ''Icerberg,'' in which singer Cerasuolo paints an expressionist picture, where the iceberg represents the black hole everyone carries in their hearts—where rejection, loneliness, and melancholy are three sensations many of us have experienced during adolescence. The song ''Arrivederci Addio,'' which talks about ''Sentirsi fuori moda, fuori di se' sotto scacco degli attacchi di panico'' quoting Cerasuolo's words, probably expresses the whole album's extrinsic theme: if you are alone, how can you face the world????

Other very successful moments include ''Senza una scusa,'' ''Quando si fa buio,'' in which themes such as abandonment, relying on a home that isn't ours, or the need to find one's own path are explored.

The record flows smoothly without any particular slowdowns and ends with a magnificent acoustic piece, ''I complicati pretesti del come,'' a track that contains all the previously described characteristics: abandonment, solitude, love, and the need to feel like accomplices.

In conclusion, the album, made up of 14 tracks, is fresh, direct, and immediate; the lyrics are very well crafted and the themes are addressed with a refined and very delicate pop sound. By listening to the record with great care, you can imagine mental journeys and little soundtracks to everyday life.

Perturbazione is exactly that, fine composers, craftsmen of the chorus, who have loved and elaborated on the Italian music created so far without being overly derivative.

Perhaps that is the only flaw. Everything appears too serene and composed... The jolt you would expect never comes.
