American jazz guitarist and composer, leader of the Pat Metheny Group, active since the mid-1970s and known for blending jazz, fusion, world and ambient influences.

Born in Lee's Summit, Missouri; debut album Bright Size Life (1975). Longtime collaborator with Lyle Mays; worked in trio and group formats and with artists such as Ornette Coleman, Jaco Pastorius, Charlie Haden, Jack DeJohnette, Brad Mehldau. Noted for both melodic work and experimental projects (e.g. Zero Tolerance For Silence, Orchestrion).
