THAT'S ALL FOLKS! - SOMA... 3RD WAY TO ZION - FULL LENGTH ALBUM 2000 - REISSUE REMASTERED 2023
After the binge on the Grunge phenomenon that gave us deep emotions, another one followed: that of Stoner Rock.
After breathing in the dusty atmospheres of desert music from Kyuss (with John Garcia as the genre’s unique voice), we delved deeper into the Italian Stoner scene.
At the time, there was a fanzine called "Movimento Sonoro" that allowed us to get in touch with the fantastic world of music coming from the Italian underground. Stoner was very popular, and several bands began to produce interesting works: "Acajou," "Dugjive," "Kali Yuga," "Sister Morphine," "Ufamammut," "Vortice Cremisi," and many others like these guys from Bari, "That's all folks," who recorded "Soma...3rd way to Zion" inspired by "Blues for the Red Sun" by the aforementioned Kyuss. Their sound was the classic American "Desert Rock"—direct, dirty, and visceral, a mix of Stoner & raw psychedelia. Nowadays, “Soma… 3rd Way to Zion” can be considered a real cult album, with its fuzz-laden riffs, DIY style, and that raw energy of the era, typical of the Italian underground—no trends, no compromises, just sound and sweat.
Together with other emerging acts like those mentioned above, in those years they helped build a scene that did not yet have a name but is now recognized as the roots of Italian Stoner. But today I wonder: does such an Italian musical underground still exist, or are there only talent shows with forgettable tunes?

Black Tears
With makeup on, I look like a gypsy and deep down I enjoy stealing: a thief of emotions, of impossible and always distant loves, of Battiato’s words that caressed me as a child, forbidden books about harems and then, later on, Tantra, Yoga, Buddhism, Guinea Bissau, Tunisia, Egypt, Morocco where I feel at home....
That dark-skinned miner who used to come back, in contrast to the Solitary Beach, marked all of us a little, just when we wanted to drown.
Take this great track the algorithm gifted me in relation to DCD and, curious thief that I am, I’ll make you listen to it. rubare:

Maracaibo
"A tragic tale of love and war set in the sea of that Caribbean scene
Maracaibo
dance at the Barracuda
yes but dance naked
za' za'
yes but the machine pistols
yes but the machine guns
it was just a cover
she was running arms to Cuba
in love
yes but with Fidel
but Fidel wasn’t there
he was in the mountains from morning till night
Yes but there was Pedro
with the green moon
he hugged her on the crates
of nitroglycerin
Fidel came back, came back
he saw her and turned pale
his heart trembled
he fired four pistol shots at her
Maracaibo
sea force nine
escape yes but where?

za' za'
The broken mast
a black fin
in the dark night
like a flag
the shark bites
into the brown skin
a white fang
like the moon
Maracaibo
the Barracuda is over
dancing naked is over
za' za'
a grand salon
twenty-three mulattas
dance like mad
house of pleasure for foreigners
I knew her
splendid queen
rum and cocaine
za' za'
if you are courteous
she’ll show you
in the brown skin
a white fang
like the moon
Maracaibo"

So, this band and the JA currently have an average of 2.6 million each monthly listeners on Sporifai. I’d like to point out that about 60 years have passed. Any comments from you. Psychedelia never die
