You were the greatest keyboardist in rock; your musical culture was immense, as was your solo ego, and if the idea of blending rock and classical music wasn't yours, you were the one who developed it, giving it rules and paradigms that everyone, including your detractors, would follow.
The synthesizer as we know it today would not exist without your contribution to Dr. Moog's original work.
You were loved by many and hated by many for your penchant for the spectacularization of solos and virtuosity.
But in the meantime, you were the best.
Then came alcohol, your associated demon, and depression, your absolute demon.
Your loyalty to the bottle was certainly culpable for the colon cancer that struck you, without killing you, while you were already battling a neurological condition that had disabled two of your fingers and was rapidly spreading.
Then a gunshot to the temple, on March 10, 2016.
