Those who have never seen Umberto Tozzi in Udine, with a supergroup including the remarkable Lee Ritenour on guitar (don’t know who he was? Not my fault), don’t know the emotion my girlfriend at the time, a true fan of Tozzi, experienced. And neither did I. I had just enjoyed the "Banana Repubblic" Tour and never would have imagined that a few months later I would witness a performance that reached the sound quality of the best Toto. It was fantastic! With the initial riff of "Stella Stai," I leapt into the air like a schoolgirl experiencing her first dampness, because that riff is a riff! You just have to listen to it!
Then, in this piece, Umberto sat at the piano: my girlfriend, Sabrina, clung tightly to me because she feared that her God would go out of tune during the falsetto passage. But no. A spine-tingling performance!
There exists a double live vinyl of that Tour, which I bought and gifted to Sabrina, saving on my snack money.
That’s how I rolled. Eh.
