"Men Against," by Francesco Rosi, was adapted from "A Year on the Plateau" by Emilio Lussu, who had already been highly decorated in Asiago during World War I, later became an officer in the anti-fascist Italian contingent in the Spanish Civil War, founded "Giustizia e Libertà," and was consequently a founding father of the Italian Constitution.
Lussu attended the screening with Mario Rigoni Stern, a writer and a veteran of the Retreat from Russia, and came out of the cinema moved and affected by the harshness and truthfulness of the film.
