T hose who are dear to the gods die young...
Timothy "Tim" Charles Buckley III (1947-1975) was an American singer-songwriter and guitarist. An inspired author of songs that always oscillate between folk, rock, a certain Davis-like jazz, and West Coast psychedelia. Gifted with a voice that is at once ethereal, sweet, almost dreamy, yet also determined, willful, hallucinatory, not shying away from singing lines that resemble weeping, screaming, or moaning.
Incidentally, he was the father of Jeff, whom he had with a high school girlfriend he married at a young age and abandoned upon learning of her pregnancy. Jeff too would pass away prematurely, after a dazzling yet brief musical career.
Cause of death: the usual cocktail of barbiturates, heroin, and alcohol.
His ashes were scattered in an unspecified corner of the Pacific Ocean, presumably off the coast of California.
