He dies young, who is dear to the gods...
Dennis Carl Wilson (1944-1983): drummer, singer, member of the Beach Boys. Blessed with a beautiful, powerful, and sonorous voice at the beginning of his career, he ultimately ruined it due to excesses with every alcoholic drink and every universally known drug. He regained his voice just in time to record a single, true solo album, unjustly snubbed upon its release but later reassessed, an honest album of US singer-songwriter style infused with beautiful blues and soul veins.
By the way, as a drummer he wasn’t very good, but he had the essential skill of being the only one of the Beach Boys who truly knew how to surf. His friendship with Charles Manson was much debated; he claimed that nobody knew anything beyond what the media described and that one day he would dedicate a book to him, something he didn’t have time to realize.
Cause of death: Drowning at sea, following a massive binge, while trying to retrieve objects thrown into the sea some time earlier. He was buried at sea off the California coast.
